Week Thirteen: All Hands On Deck

Since last week Trump has been handed several legal losses, and after Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan refused to allow ICE agents to arrest a suspect in her court, AG Pam Bondi had her arrested and charged with obstruction.

In related news, the Trump regime has begun deporting US citizens, in this case a mother from New Orleans and her children, including a 2-year-old and a child with cancer. They have also made no move to return Abrego Garcia to the US, completely disregarding multiple court orders.

On Monday Trump posted that he “rules the US and the world.” Somebody put grandpa to bed. Trump has also begun selling Trump 2028 merch, no doubt made in China like everything else he hawks.

And in first amendment news, Bill Owens, the longtime head of CBS’s 60 Minutes has stepped down, citing he feels the show has been compromised, and he no longer feels he will have journalistic freedom with stories critical of Trump and his regime. This news comes as CBS’s parent company, Paramount, is in the middle of a lawsuit regarding a proposed merger with SkyDance.

And more and more people are being stopped and interrogated by masked men without badges who claimed they were ICE/CBP agents but refused to show identification when asked.But the big story since last week has been the death and funeral of Pope Francis. His memorial was attended by several world leaders, including France’s Emmanuel Macron, who snubbed Trump by not shaking his hand.

Good News

In good news, This Sunday Cory Booker and Hakeem Jefferies held a sit-in on the Capital steps to protest the republican budget plan. It was attended by hundreds of supporters. However, the democratic party was mostly AWOL from this sit-in. Aside from a handful of democratic officials, Booker and Jefferies were solo.

This leads me to this week’s theme.

All Hands On Deck

As Trump deports US citizens, strong arms reporters, and arrests judges who rule against him and his regime, where the fuck is the democratic party? Aside from a few standouts like Booker, Jefferies, Crockett, and AOC, the party has done nothing to stop the regime as it hurtles us farther into fascism.

This is not a drill: unless democrats get their asses into gear ASAP, we’re all screwed. Point blank. This isn’t the time for empty words or pointless stunts. We need leadership who gets this is an all-hands-on deck situation that require urgent resolute action.

Not a year and a half. We can’t wait until the midterms because by then it will be too late to stop the wholesale dismantling of our democracy. Every day brings a fresh new hell and at the rate the Trump regime is going I’m sure we will even have elections in 2026, certainly not free and fair ones.

The US is fast becoming a country a I don’t recognize, one in which I feel less safe with each passing day. I’ll stick it out as long as I can, but if you have the means to leave, do it.

Short of international intervention or our military pulling a South-Korea-style coup, I don’t see this regime going quietly. And if by some miracle Trump et al are removed, we need to have a long conversation about term limits, getting money out of politics, and forming a viable progressive party.

Till then, it’s all hands on deck.
